Crazy 2009 Statements From Glenn Beck By: Steve - December 26, 2009 - 9:00am The Most Outrageous Comment of the 2009 came when Glenn Beck asserted that Obama is a "racist" who has "exposed himself as a guy" with "a deep-seated hatred for white people or the white culture." Here are a few more from Beck and a couple other right-wing idiots. -- Beck on Mary Landrieu: "We're with a high-class prostitute" -- Echoing Beck, Limbaugh claims Landrieu "may be the most expensive prostitute in the history of prostitution" -- Beck guest Scheuer: "The only chance we have as a country right now is" for bin Laden to "detonate a major weapon" in U.S. -- Beck: "If we don't have some common sense, we're facing the destruction of our country... it's coming" -- Beck: "You can't convince me that the founding fathers wouldn't allow you to secede" -- Beck imitates Obama pouring gasoline on "average American"; says: "President Obama, why don't you just set us on fire? ... We didn't vote to lose the Republic" -- Newsmax columnist: Military coup "to resolve the 'Obama problem' " is not "unrealistic" -- Liddy claims Obama "born" in Kenya; warns guest to "to avoid the corpses of the illegal aliens" while passing through desert -- Limbaugh: "God does not have a birth certificate. Neither does Obama." -- Hannity: Given his father's birthplace, what's wrong with asking if Obama has a "legitimate birth certificate?" -- Days after decrying those who say Democrats are "trying to turn us into communist Russia," Beck claimed Obama "has Marxist tendencies" -- Beck continues long history of invoking Nazis by comparing Fox to the Jews during the Holocaust -- Beck: "Nobel Peace Prize should be turned down by Barack Obama and given ... to the Tea Party goers and the 9-12 Project" -- Perino: "We did not have a terrorist attack on our country during President Bush's term" -- Beck jokes about "put[ting] poison" in Nancy Pelosi's wine -- Brandishing bat, Beck declares, "Anyone not on board, look out, because you too could be the next victim of the killing spree" -- Ingraham guest host Bruce on the Obamas: "We've got trash in the White House" -- Beck portrays Obama, Democrats as vampires "going after the blood of our businesses," suggests "driving a stake through the heart of the bloodsuckers" -- Limbaugh likens Democrats to murderers, rapists, and "this Muslim guy" that "offed his wife's head" -- Quinn agrees with caller that Democrats "took over the country without firing a shot," adds "so did Hitler" -- Liddy claims Obama "born" in Kenya; warns guest to "to avoid the corpses of the illegal aliens" while passing through desert And I could show you a hundred more just like that, or worse. Glenn Beck Named 2009 Misinformer Of The Year By: Steve - December 24, 2009 - 8:00am Media Matters has named Glenn Beck the 2009 misinformer of the year. From mediamatters.org: Glenn Beck's well of ridiculous was deep and poisonous before he launched his Fox News show, but the inauguration of the 44th president of the United States -- and the permissive cheerleading of his Fox News honchos -- uncorked the former Morning Zoo shock jock's unique brand of vitriol, stage theatrics, and hyperbolic fright, making him an easy choice for Media Matters' 2009 Misinformer of the Year. When he wasn't calling the president a racist, portraying progressive leaders as vampires who can only be stopped by "driving a stake through the heart of the bloodsuckers," or pushing the legitimacy of seceding from the country, Beck obsessively compared Democrats in Washington to Nazis and fascists and "the early days of Adolf Hitler." He wondered, "Is this where we're headed," while showing images of Hitler, Stalin, and Lenin; decoded the secret language of Marxists; and compared the government to "heroin pushers" who were "using smiley-faced fascism to grow the nanny state." Like his predecessor, Beck spat on scruples, frequently announcing his goal to get administration officials fired. He increasingly acted not as a media figure, but as the head of a political movement, while helping to bring fringe conspiracies of a one-world government into the national discourse. In the controversy that followed Beck's inflammatory charge that the president is racist, his Fox News show began to hemorrhage advertisers, and Beck began to beg his viewers to "call a friend and tell them to watch the show this week." By September, Beck, who had become "tired of the race thing" and who claimed he doesn't "think the race thing works anymore," apparently decided it was time to move on. He later would blame politicians for charges of racism and call "false cries of racism" "dangerous." Beck then sat down for an interview with CBS' Katie Couric where he would express regret for the way he phrased the claim that Obama is a racist, but then emphasized that the issue of Obama's racism is a "serious question." In the months since Beck called Obama a "racist" with a "deep-seated hatred of white people," at least 80 advertisers have reportedly dropped their ads from his Fox News show, yet he has faced no apparent repercussions from Fox News. Then again, Rupert Murdoch apparently agrees with Beck that Obama is a racist. The Beck Lie Machine Rolls On By: Steve - December 18, 2009 - 9:00am Glenn Beck has been caught lying again, and he had the right-wing smear artist Michael Goldfarb on to promote his latest fake scandal, that the White House threatened Senator Ben Nelson with closing down Offut Air Force Base if he didn't agree to support the Obama health care bill. As Media Matters reported, this story has in fact been denied by everyone, including Sen. Nelson and his office. Nelson sharply dismissed reports on political blogs and Internet chatter that he has been threatened or promised rewards for his vote. NELSON: "My vote cannot be bought and I cannot be threatened," he said.Suggestions of a trade-off for new Air Force facilities at Offutt Air Force Base south of Omaha are "yellow journalism at its worst," Nelson said. Senator Nelson's spokesman dismissed a report by conservative columnist Michelle Malkin that Nelson was being threatened with closure of an air force base. Nelson spokesman Jake Thompson said both of Malkin's claims about Nelson are false. "The rumor is not true, this misinformation is coming from inside the Beltway partisans who only want to derail health care reform. The White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer also released a statement: Proving that they will leave no stone unturned in their efforts to undermine health reform, some blogs opposing reform are now trafficking an absurd rumor that Nebraska's Offutt Air Force Base is being threatened over Senator Ben Nelson's vote on the Senate reform bill. These denials were a matter of public record before Beck went on the air with his lies. Not that hacks like Beck, Malkin, and Goldfarb would have informed the public of that anyway. Goldfarb even had to retract one part of his original reporting, that it was Rahm Emanuel who decided to do it. His only source for the story is an anonymous, unidentified Senate staffer. It's just another lie from Beck and the right-wing idiots who will say or do anything to make Obama look bad. Truth and facts mean nothing to them, especially Beck. It was a rumor started by a right-wing partisan to make Obama look bad, real journalists do not report rumors, especially when all the people involved deny it. It's Official: Glenn Beck has Lost His Mind By: Steve - December 15, 2009 - 9:30am Glenn Beck is now saying the Government will control your home thermostat through a smart grid, and invoke the China one-child per family policy. Which may be the most ridiculous and untrue thing he has ever said, and that's saying a lot. In another effort at conspiracy theorizing, Glenn Beck placed his target squarely on environmental cultists who are limiting your energy use though secret control of your home thermostat. Seriously, he really said that, he also complained that pro-choice activists have not protested non-existent laws prohibiting more than one child per family. It's impossible, you control your home thermostat, and nobody else. For someone to even say that, proves they are either the biggest liar in the history of mankind, or they are the most insane person in the history of mankind. In the case of Glenn Beck, it could be both. Then he complained that nobody is protesting against the one child policy, when we do not have a one child policy, so how can you protest against something you do not have. It's pure insanity, and nothing but crazy right-wing lies. Beck just makes it up and hopes someone will believe it. During his insane rant Beck even decided to cite Charles Dickens and Scrooge, and he even got that wrong, proving how stupid he is. He is Sarah Palin stupid, maybe even worse. Beck said this: BECK: We don't know what this ultimate utopia will be, but as we approach Christmas this year, the climate cult, to me, is looking more and more like Scrooge. I believe it was Scrooge -- you know, before the change and the Tiny Tim, "I'd like more please" -- I think it was before all of that, when Charles Dickens wrote the words for Scrooge, "Well, if we all are going to die anyway, perhaps we had better do it and decrease the surplus population." I, for one, don't believe there's a surplus population. How about you? That is so wrong I barely know where to start. Oliver Twist said "Please, sir, I want some more" not Tiny Tim. There was no Tiny Tim in that Dickens story, so Beck is an idiot, a mind is a terrible thing to waste. Scrooge did not say if we are all going to die anyway, perhaps we had better do it and decrease the surplus population. He said If "they" would rather die, they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population. He said "they" not we. So Beck did not even get that right. When Scrooge invokes decreasing the surplus population, it's not because we are all going to die, it's because he hates the poor, and in refusing to contribute anything charitable towards the poor at Christmas time, he'd rather "they" died, to decrease the surplus population. And now after you read this Beck insanity, if you still watch Beck and support him, you are not only stupid, you are a fool. Now The Crazy Beck Wants To Abolish Medicare By: Steve - December 11, 2009 - 9:00am Wednesday, Senate Democrats working on health care reform reached a compromise on the public option that will create a network of nonprofit insurers and allow Americans between the ages of 55 and 64 to buy into Medicare. The right has hypocritically opposed a government-run public-option while simultaneously defending Medicare. On his radio show yesterday, Fox News host Glenn Beck said this: BECK: And, wait wait wait. And I also said why don't you just abolish Medicare, because it's so wildly corrupt and out of control. It's so inefficient, it is so bad and there's $47 billion in suspected wrong payments, okay, in Medicare. So what are they saying - now remember, what we're going to do - the compromise is we're going to expand Medicare. That way there won't be a public option, we'll just - which doesn't make any sense - we're going to expand Medicare. As usual, Beck is totally clueless, and has all the facts wrong. Medicare is more efficient than private health insurance and would be better at controlling costs than weaker public option plans. And while Republicans strongly opposed Medicare when it was created under President Johnson, it has become popular over time. When Rep. Anthony Wiener (D-NY) introduced an amendment to eliminate Medicare in July - urging conservatives to "put-up or shut-up" about their objection to Medicare. Not a single member of Congress voted for it, not one Republican, nobody voted yes. Not to mention, Medicare is hugely successful. Before Medicare more than one in four seniors lacked health care and a third lived in poverty. Now every American over 65 has access to quality care. A Commonwealth Fund study found that people with Medicare "report fewer problems obtaining medical care, and less financial hardship due to medical bills, and higher overall satisfaction with their coverage," compared to people with employer-provided care. Here are the facts, 56 percent of Medicare beneficiaries rate their coverage a 9 or 10 on a scale of 10, while only 40 percent with private insurance do so. Beck In Violation Of Fox News Endorsement Policy By: Steve - December 9, 2009 - 10:00am In October, ThinkProgress pointed out that Glenn Beck used his television show to scaremonger about the dollar and promote investment in gold while failing to disclose the financial support he receives from gold companies such as Goldline, whose website features a picture of Beck and the following quote: BECK: "Before I started turning you on to Goldline, I wanted to look them in the eye. This is a top notch organization that's been in business since 1960."The Daily Finance's Jeff Bercovici reports that Beck's Goldline endorsement is in violation of Fox News policies: Like other news organizations, Fox News prohibits its on-air personalities from making paid product endorsements. But it makes an exception for its commentators who are also radio hosts, who are allowed to perform live reads, says Joel Cheatwood, senior vice president for development. It's not only against the Fox News rules, it is unethical to use fear tactics about the dollar to inflate the price of Gold, especially when you have Gold companies who buy ad time on your show. Proving that Beck is just a con man who only cares about making money and getting more famous. Real journalists do not do this kind of unethical garbage. And I will bet Fox News does nothing about it, because he gets good ratings. They basically have no standards, if it gets ratings they don't care what they do to get them. The Glenn Beck Christmas Sweater Show A Flop By: Steve - December 6, 2009 - 9:00am Thursday night Glenn Beck premiered his new live show based on his book The Christmas Sweater, which was simulcast to hundreds of movie theaters across the country. The sponsor, Fathom Events called it a once in a lifetime event, during which Glenn will tell you about the real life events that inspired him to write the book, play clips from his 2008 national tour, and share stories of the overwhelming response he received. Despite heavy promotion on Beck's radio and TV shows, and in-theater trailers, ticket sales were weak in major cities: Beck sold 17 tickets in Boston, 17 in New York, and just 30 in Washington, DC. While sales were a little better in more conservative areas, even Seattle - which is near Beck's hometown, Raw Story reported he still could not get a decent crowd: While it performed better in the south and in rural, more conservative areas, his ability to draw viewers in major US markets was a bust. And Despite purporting to be a champion of the little guy, Beck set tickets prices at $20 - about double the average ticket price. Blogger Joseph Childers reports that the production value looked cheap, and the bulk of the evening consists solely of Glenn Beck acting out every role in his hokey story, with only his limited repertoire of accents and pantomime filling out the cast. Here is my comment, if you paid $1.00 (let alone $20.00) to see Glenn Beck do a live one man show, based on his Christmas Sweater book, you paid 99 cents too much, and you need your head examined. One man who saw the show said it was terrible, and that Beck sweats like crazy, he said they had to change his shirt 4 times because they all got soaked with sweat. Former Fox Host Admits Right-Wing Bias By: Steve - December 4, 2009 - 8:00am In February 2008, Eric Burns, who had worked at Fox News since the network launched in 1996 and served as the closest person Fox had to an ombudsman as the host of Fox News Watch, was told he would be terminated within the next two months. Since his firing, for which he said he was not given a reason, Burns has largely avoided discussing his former employer. In a September 2008 blog post about MSNBC's opinion shows, Burns wrote that Fox is a topic for another article, and another writer. Burns has ended his Fox News silence, writing on the Huffington Post that he used to work for a "right-wing partial news, but mostly opinion network." In particular, Burns takes aim at Glenn Beck, who he calls a problem of taste as well as ethics: I speak out now because it is the time of year when one is supposed to count blessings. I have several. Among them is that I do not have to face the ethical problem of sharing an employer with Glenn Beck.Comparing Beck to Huey Long, Father Coughlin, and John Birch, Burns asks himself what I would have done if I worked at Fox now. Noting that Jane Hall - who had regularly appeared on his Fox Show - recently left the network partially because of Beck, Burns admits that he might not have acted as admirable as she did: I ask myself what I would have done if I worked at Fox now. Would I have quit, as the estimable Jane Hall did? Once a panelist on my program, Hall departed for other reasons as well, but Beck was a particular source of embarrassment to her, even though they never shared a studio, perhaps never even met.Basically Eric Burns admits Fox has a right-wing bias, but he did not have the integrity to quit because he needed the paycheck. What A Shocker Beck Caught Lying Again By: Steve - December 3, 2009 - 8:30am Yesterday Glenn Beck falsely claimed that "jobs are not being saved or created" and that the Obama administration is "creating the make-believe 'saved or created' category" for jobs. BECK: And the bogus claim of putting people back to work? Please. We have lost 4 million jobs since this man took office. I'm not saying that it's his fault; I'm just saying let's deal with reality. That's why they're creating the make-believe "saved or created" category. I'm expecting to see flying reindeer soon.In fact, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) recently estimated that the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009, which was heavily promoted by President Obama, created 1.6 million jobs. The CBO estimates that in the third quarter of calendar year 2009, an additional 600,000 to 1.6 million people were employed in the United States, and real (inflation-adjusted) gross domestic product (GDP) was 1.2 percent to 3.2 percent higher, than would have been the case in the absence of ARRA. Those ranges are intended to reflect the uncertainty of such estimates and to encompass most economists views on the effects of fiscal stimulus. |
